A 2D drawing with dimensions and tolerances is the best starting point. A 3D file or physical sample can support the review, but it should not replace critical dimensions and acceptance criteria.

Define the service environment

State the media, continuous and peak temperatures, pressure, movement, outdoor exposure, and expected service life. If a material is already approved, include the compound or standard rather than only a generic polymer name.

Clarify the commercial requirements

Include prototype quantity, annual demand, target order quantity, packaging, labeling, inspection reports, and delivery destination. These details affect tooling, process selection, and unit pricing.
